Hollyoaks star says he won't be returning to the soap after being judged on Twitter

He recently sparked nostalgia when he returned to Hollyoaks as Kurt Benson, but Jeremy Edwards says he won't be going back after being trolled.

Jeremy, who made a comeback to the soap after 21 years, says he made the decision with a 'heavy heart' after being 'judged' on Twitter.

Fans rushed to support the 49-year-old actor after he made the announcement and said he was feeling 'particularly low' at the moment.

"It is with a heavy heart I am announcing I will NOT be returning to Hollyoaks, he wrote.

"Many reasons but I’d be lying if I said being judged on here hasn’t influenced my decision.

"Never say never but for now I’m done. Thank you to those who have supported me for me."

When one follower wrote: "Actor makes career decision based on Karen on Twitter..." he asked: "Who’s Karen? I need to speak to her, perhaps she can guide me?

He then told fans: "I need to make this clear. It is one of many factors.

"Thank you for your concern. I’m particularly low atm as we all are so let’s be nice to one another X"

One fan said: "I'm sorry to hear this. I've enjoyed your fabulous acting in Hollyoaks.

"All these haters are not worth it, they have nothing better to do but put others down.

"I wouldn't tolerate it that's for sure! Hope you're back one day, much love xx"

Another told him: "I’m sure many of your fans will be really disappointed to hear that.

"Hopefully the mean spirited tweeters will find karma bites them very hard on the bum.

"Nothing is gained by unkindness. Keep strong and I look forward to seeing your next project."

"Saddened to hear that the trolls have got to you," another follower tweeted.

"I hope that your considerable talents will take you onwards and upwards. Best of luck."

Another Hollyoaks fan told him: "That is sad.

"I have watched the Oaks since day one so you were a welcome trip down memory Lane . Good luck in your next adventure."

And co-star Tamara Wall, who plays Grace Black in the show, said: "That’s such a shame babe."

Jeremy went on to star in the hospital drama Holby City after Hollyoaks, playing Danny Shaughnessy, and in 2005 he came fourth place on Celebrity Big Brother.

In 2019 he formed a singing duo with ex Strictly Come Dancing professional Brendan Cole on The X Factor: Celebrity, but they were eliminated at the auditions stage.

Jeremy returned to Hollyoaks as Kurt during the soap's 25th anniversary celebrations in October.

Motorbike-riding Kurt came back as a conman who ended up embroiled in a plot to help villainous surgeon Edward Hutchinson.

Edward promised not to tell his daughter Verity that her man was posing as a successful businessman if he helped him to break up his son Tony's marriage to Diane.
