Hollyoaks star Sarah Jayne Dunn may return to soap as character not killed off after sacking

Sarah Jayne Dunn could still return to Hollyoaks, despite being axed from the show, after bosses decided not to kill her character off, it has been reported.

The actress, who has appeared on Hollyoaks on-and-off as Mandy Richardson since 1996, refused to delete her OnlyFans page after being issued a warning by bosses in the autumn.

She was subsequently sacked from the Channel 4 soap after being unable to "reach a solution" with bosses following suggestions that her raunchy content online was at odds with their younger audience.

However, it has now been reported that her storyline will remain open-ended as a source told The Sun : "In soap it’s very common for actors to drift in and out of the show."

They added: "But the key is whether the character just ‘moves abroad’ or gets jailed – something reversible.

“If the character’s killed off, you know it’s the end.

“So if I was Sarah Jayne, I’d feel pretty relieved there were no plans to bump off Mandy.”

Following her exit, Sarah said that the long-running series 'isn't well paid'.

"There's a huge misconception that people on TV shows earn huge amounts of money, it just isn't the case," she told The Sun.

"People talk about massive six-figure salaries but the reality is that if your character isn't in a big storyline for a while you can end up struggling some months."

"I've definitely experienced that myself. There are periods I haven't known how I was going to get through the next month."

It comes after the actress said that she was "taking back control" by joining the website and admitted that some fans would find it "shocking".

Earlier on in her career, Sarah had posed for a number of lads mags.

She said: I'm simply moving my sexier, racier images to another platform.

“This is a decision I’ve thought long and hard about, not one I’ve taken lightly or on a whim, it’s about taking back control, about empowerment and confidence and having full power over my choices."

However, bosses reportedly disagreed with the suggestion that she was empowering herself by being on the platform.

A Hollyoaks spokesperson said at the time: "Hollyoaks is a youth-facing drama with many young viewers, who follow our cast very closely, both in the soap and outside of it.

“We take our responsibility to our young audience very seriously and therefore the show does not allow any Hollyoaks cast members to be active on certain 18+ websites.

“We had hoped we could reach a resolution with Sarah that would allow her to remain in her role as Mandy, but we respect her choice to continue to produce content on OnlyFans."
