Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson says he quit social media after people criticised him as a parent for soap storyline

Kieron Richardson says he quit social media after people 'attacked' his children over soap storyline.

The Hollyoaks star, who has played character Ste Hay for 13 years, stepped away from Twitter in March after he received cruel trolling over the programmes radicalisation storyline.

Kieron, 33, told OK! Magazine : "I had people saying things like: ‘You're teaching your kid to be racist. You're an irresponsible parent.'

"I just couldn't deal with people saying things about my kids."

The Eccles-born actor and husband Carl Hyland welcomed twins, Phoebe and Chase, via a surrogate in 2017.

Carl added: "When I see those comments, I want to retaliate but then I'm becoming a keyboard warrior myself and I don't want to do that."

Kieron spoke exclusively in this week's OK! Magazine (OK! Magazine)

Kieron faced one of his most controversial storylines in the soap which saw Ste groomed by Jonny Baxter, who was played by Ray Quinn, leading him to join a right wing extremist group and committing racist acts.

Speaking at the time, Kieron said he did receive backlash for the part and told the Daily Star Online that he tried to "water down" his performance in order to reduce the negative feedback and avoiding offending viewers.
