Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe confirms Later spin-off will be 'gory and racy'

Hollyoaks actress Jennifer Metcalfe has teased what fans can expect from the returning spin-off Hollyoaks Later.

The Mercedes McQueen star confirmed she was involved in the special, that is making a comeback for a one-off episode in January.

Mercedes will be shot next week in dramatic scenes as part of a new whodunnit, while the culprit has yet to be confirmed.

But despite the actress confirming her character would be injured and left in a coma for three weeks, it seems she survives the ordeal as she is set to appear in Hollyoaks Later in the beginning of next year.

Speaking to Mirror Online and other publications at a recent Hollyoaks press event, Jennifer confirmed new details.

She said: "Yes! I'm looking forward to it. I've just read the scripts and they're brilliant.

"We haven't done Hollyoaks Later for a few years now."

Jennifer added of the specific scenes: "We're not going abroad for it – it's not a glamorous location at all! But each Later comes with something different.

"This time it pushes it with a bit more gore. It's gory and racy. It's everything that you want!"

It comes after the actress teased what was to come for Mercedes, after a shooting will leave her fighting for her life.

Speaking about the scenes and the dramatic fallout, Jennifer told us: "[The injuries are] pretty bad. She ends up in a coma for three weeks which was fantastic.

"After doing all these epic monologues in front of everybody, I literally go into a coma for three weeks so it's like three blocks of me laid in bed all day.

"Way too much Internet shopping... there was nothing else to do, but I got to lay in bed for three weeks."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4, with the next episode at 7pm on E4.
