Hollyoaks record coronavirus mental health special as stars film remotely

Hollyoaks has recorded a mental health special remotely which addresses loneliness and self-isolation amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Brits have been told to stay at home and self-isolate in a bid to combat COVID-19.

The Channel 4 soap has recorded a special episode of the Don't Filter Feelings podcast during the coronavirus outbreak.

Presenter and journalist Lauren Layfield will be joined by actor Ashley Taylor Dawson, who plays Darren Osborne, and mental health campaigner Josh Connolly - all remotely from their own homes.

This comes as Hollyoaks explores mid-life depression amongst males involving Darren and Kyle Kelly.

Darren has been secretly struggling with depression over the last few months. However in the coming weeks, he will begin to crack.

The podcast will launch Hollyaoks' 'Month of Listening', which is a multi-platform campaign to encourage people to become better listeners and to not "filter" the feelings of those opening up.

Speaking about the subject of self-isolation, Ashley said: "It’s either you are going through a portal or going into a hole, and that’s how you’ve got to attack it really.

"You’ve got to make it something, make it an experience instead of wallowing in the misery of what it could be.”

He also opened up about what it was like home-schooling his children.

Ashley said: "As a dad you sort of try and be the all-knowing father, but your kids who are nine are better at their times table than you are.”

*Hollyoaks airs weekdays on Channel 4 and E4
