Hollyoaks horror as Toby and Celeste say sick doctor experimented on them after adoption

Hollyoaks viewers were left horrified tonight after Toby revealed that he and Celeste were experimented on by the sick doctor who adopted them years ago.

Last night, fans were stunned when it was revealed that Mitchell Deveraux wasn't just a twin but also a triplet after it emerged that Celeste wasn't Toby's wife, but his sister.

And tonight there was another dark twist when Toby explained his traumatic childhood with biological mum Martine.

He began by speaking about a boy who had been experimented on by being locked up and denied any emotional love or support while the sister was raised in a perfect family.

Toby then revealed to a horrified Martine that the boy he had been talking about was himself.

He said: "We were an experiment for some twisted book - The Red Door. My sister was taken care of, cared for, loved, I was the lab rat.

“We communicated like this - tap tap tap - we knew we weren’t meant to be together so we developed it. Necessity is the mother of invention."

Toby then lied and said that his sister had died, leaving Martine devastated.

Stunned fans flocked to Twitter in shock, with one tweeting: "That. Was. Intense! #Hollyoaks."

While another commented: "Phenomenal acting such good writing and such a unique storyline blows all the other soaps out the water since all they seem to be doing is copying hollyoaks."

A third wrote: "Well that was intense wasn’t it."

"This storyline is fantastic x," another remarked.

*Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6.30pm on Channel 4 and 7pm on E4
