Hollyoaks fans sob as Luke Morgan is killed off in tragic twist ahead of wedding day

Hollyoaks viewers were left on the edge of their seats after Monday's instalment of the Channel 4 show following the shock death of much-loved character, Luke Morgan.

The emotional final scene of the hour-long episode saw Luke's final moments as the episode ended in tragedy when he became confused and dropped Cindy’s wedding ring.

Luke and his fiancée Cindy had been enjoying their joint stag and hen do in Mallorca with their nearest and dearest pals when the tragic fall took place.

As Luke stood on the edge of the cliff looking lovingly at his wife to-be, he fatally lost his footing on the edge and as Cindy and the rest of the hen party rushed over to save their him, they quickly realised they were far too late.

"This ring is almost a beautiful as you," Luke whispered to Cindy before he suddenly lost his grip and fell backwards off the cliff.

To her horror, his stunned fiancée screamed as she watched the love of her life fall to his death just days before their wedding.

The emotional episode closed out with a series of flashbacks which revisited Luke’s highlights over the years in the Hollyoaks village.

In 2019, Luke was diagnosed with FTD (frontotemporal dementia), and in recent months he had grown increasingly confused as his condition deteriorated.

There had also been significant changes in Luke's behaviour too with his family struggling to come to terms with the extent of his illness.

Luke, who is played by actor Gary Lucy, has been one of Hollyoaks longest-standing residents, making his first appearance in the Chester village in March, 1999.

Following the episode - which was available to view online before hitting screens this evening - viewers took to Twitter to share their dismay a they said goodbye to Luke for the last time.

"Wow I just finished Hollyoaks, I was not expecting Luke to go like that", one fan wrote on Twitter.

"So sad watching Luke fall to his death on his stag. What a way to kill him off," another echoed.

"Can't believe that's the last of Luke Morgan," someone else complained.

Meanwhile, a fourth gushed: "Hollyoaks playing that montage of Luke after he fell to his death has ruined my day. I loved him."

Hollyoaks continues on Channel 4 at 6.30pm.
