Hollyoaks fans beg for Brendan Brady comeback as legend 'returns' for special episode

Hollyoaks viewers were in meltdown as Channel 4 soap favourite Brendan Brady made his return - sort of.

With filming currently halted due to the coronavirus pandemic, resulting in lockdown measures, Hollyoaks have been airing some past favourites to keep everyone entertained.

Past episodes with some old faces have been screened so far, and will continue to be shown for the foreseeable.

Thursday night saw the return of soap legend Brendan Brady played by actor Emmett Scanlan.

The character left the show in 2013, with the latest screened episode showing the moments leading up to the exit of Ste Hay's former lover.

Brendan was one of the best characters in the village of all time, and remains popular with fans seven years on from his exit.

Viewers have called for his return for years, and seeing him back on screen in the latest episode gave them all of the feels.

The episode in question was actually one of his last, and saw him take centre stage in harrowing scenes.

Brendan opened up to boyfriend Ste about the physical and sexual abuse at the hands of his father Seamus.

He didn't want to tell sister Cheryl about it ahead of her own village exit, but she soon found out thanks to a secret video recording mailed to her by Brendan's enemy Walker.

Walker, who had just recently been killed off after a final showdown with him, had recorded Seamus confessing to abusing Brendan after he held the pair hostage.

Cheryl reeled as she witnessed the footage, and raced to the club where the father and son were, armed with a gun.

When she got there, Seamus had attacked Brendan before threatening to abuse him once more.

As a terrified Brendan begged him to stop a gunshot sounded and Seamus dropped dead to the ground - with Cheryl seen holding the weapon in the doorway.

Viewers tuning in were feeling super nostalgic, and were reminded of how much they wanted him back in the village.

One fan tweeted: "I wish Brendan Brady would come back."

Another said: "Oh how I miss them bring back Brendan Brady."

A third added: "We want Brendan Brady back."

Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4, with the next episode at 7pm on E4.
