Hollyoaks' Denise Welch has 'hunky' on screen love interest but can't touch him due to coronavirus

Denise Welch has revealed she has a 'hunky' on-screen interest in Hollyoaks but isn't allowed to get close to him due to coronavirus.

It was announced last month that former Coronation Street, Soldier Solider and Waterloo Road actress Denise had landed a role in long-running Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks as Maxine Minniver's mum Trish and she has now been on set for the first time.

Denise returned to Loose Women on Wednesday and opened up about her new on-screen alias to co-stars Ruth Langsford, Jane Moore and Janet Street-Porter.

And it was then that she let slip about her character having a rather attractive other half, saying: "I have a hunky lover but I can't stay who it is yet.

"Here's me being 62 thinking 'oh they'll find someone who was in Dad's Army who's about 120 for me' but no, I've got someone very, very easy on the eye."

However, Denise then explained that she can't get too close to her new TV lover because of COVID-19 restrictions, telling her fellow panellists: "COVID filming restrictions are so frustrating!

"My character is meant to be a bit of a goer... but I like that they're writing for a woman my age who is still quite active in that department even though he's a bit of a bad boy!"

Sunday for Sammy veteran Denise also said that there's a chance that her real-life other half, husband Lincoln Townley, might be called in for intimate scenes to get round social distancing.

She added: "At the moment we have to do it with looks and things but they have said there might be a time when they call Lincoln in if I have to do a kiss.

"They've already got a wig for when the actor's wife comes in even though she's like three stone and a super model!

"Lincoln's already been at the gym if he has to come in and be my hunk! He is my hunk though."
