Holly Willoughby WON'T be on This Morning next week after Phillip quits show

This Morning will look very different on Monday as neither Holly Willoughby nor Phillip Schofield will be on the sofa.

Despite being the face of the show for over two decades, Phillip has now made the decision to step down from his position with immediate effect.

The 61-year-old explained he had become aware of bosses at ITV becoming frustrated by the ongoing drama surrounding his fall-out with Holly, 42.

While they were once the best of friends, their relationship has been strained with Holly cutting all contact with Phillip.

Now, it has emerged that Holly won't be appearing on the sofa next week due to previously planned time off.

It's believed that both Holly and Phillip had planned to take the week off and would be returning to the ITV studio on June 5 in line with the half-term period.

Over the years, the former TV duo had taken off the school holidays as Holly spends time with her young children.

Other presenters including Dermot O'Leary, Alison Hammond, Josie Gibson and Rylan Clark often step into the shoes of Holly and Phillip.

Holly will return, but Phil won't after he shared a statement confirming he had decided to walk away from This Morning after over 20 years of being the face of the show.

In a statement, he said: "I have always been proud to cover fascinating stories on This Morning. But recently, This Morning itself has become the story.

"Throughout my career in TV – including the very difficult last few days – I have always done my best to be honourable and kind.

"I understand that ITV has decided the current situation can’t go on, and I want to do what I can to protect the show that I love.

"So I have agreed to step down from This Morning with immediate effect, in the hope that the show can move forward to a bright future.

"I'd like to thank everyone who has supported me – especially This Morning's amazing viewers – and I'll see you all for the Soap Awards next month."

Following his statement, Holly commented: "It's been over 13 great years presenting This Morning with Phil and I want to take this opportunity to thank him for all of his knowledge, his experience and his humour.

"The sofa won't feel the same without him."

But Phil's future with ITV appears to be guaranteed, with Media and Entertainment Managing Director, Kevin Lygo explaining that he had secured a "brand new peak time series."
