Holly Willoughby targeted by homophobic trolls as she posts backing LGBT education

Holly Willoughby has made a stand in support of the LGBT community on Instagram — but faced a huge backlash from her followers.

The This Morning presenter, 38, was the target of homophobic trolls when she backed LGBT education in an impassioned post on the site.

They told her to "leave kids alone" and branded gay people "disgusting" in a string of vile comments.

Mum of three Holly had said she supports her children learning about all kinds of relationships at school, including LGBT ones.

She posted a picture from charity Styonewall that read: "Different families. Same love. I support LGBT-inclusive education."

Holly captioned the post: "Now is the time to speak up for LGBT-inclusive education. Different Families. Same Love.

"#HopeforLGBTequality @stonewalluk."

The trolls quickly flooded the comments, with one saying: "This is disgusting!! My son will NEVER go to a school where they teach this stuff as normal!"

Another posted: "Nope don’t agree at all, let kids be kids, stop confusing them."

A third commented: "This post is disgusting let kids be kids stop forcing situations on them."

But she also received hundreds of messages of support from other followers, including one wrote: "Love is love. Just a shame it's the adults that need educating!"

Holly left the post up despite the trolling (Instagram)

Another agreed: "This is such an important message. If adults can’t teach children to respect others, no matter who they love, then who will?

But a defiant Holly didn't let the trolls get to her and left the post up.

Primary and secondary pupils in England are to learn about relationships as part of compulsory lessons from September 2020.
