Holly Willoughby surprises gobsmacked Phillip Schofield with 'best birthday present ever'

Holly Willoughby surprised Phillip Schofield with the “best present ever” as he celebrated his birthday with a special message from Dame Judi Dench.

Schofield was gobsmacked as he listened to the acting legend wish him a happy birthday all the way from Borneo.

“I know you don’t like much of a fuss,” Willoughby said to her co-host on Monday. “However, I know there is a certain lady you would love to have in here on the sofa and interview one day…”

The screen then cut to Dame Judi wishing Schofield a happy April fool’s Day before apologising for not being able to celebrate with him in person. But she did promise to “come and give him a big hug” when she gets back.

In the corner, a speechless Schofield was left open-mouthed as he watched the screen in awe before proclaiming the message the “best present ever”.

“Oh my god, that’s the best present ever,” he squealed. “Oh my goodness, fabulous!”

Schofield celebrated his 57th birthday, which he pointed out is one of the first time in years he has been on the ITV show because it usually falls during the Easter holidays or on a weekend.

The Dancing On Ice presenter was also honoured at Canary Wharf station by the famous @allontheboard.

The sweet poem praised Schofield’s TV prowess as well as calling for him to be knighted one day soon.

Back in February, the duo celebrated Willoughby’s birthday on the show with Schofield using a box of puppies to surprise her.

Willoughby, 38, was reduced to tears as crew members wheeled out adorable eight-week old puppies for the presenter to play with throughout the show. She hailed the furry guests “the cutest things she has ever seen” as she cooed over the animals.

This Morning is on ITV, weekdays at 10.30am
