Holly Willoughby spots important problem with Monster Munch crisps during This Morning debate

It’s been the biggest TV food debate since Richard Osman’s World Cup of Biscuits - what are Britain’s favourite crisps?

Channel 5 aired a programme to get to the bottom of everyone’s favourite salty snack, but the results received an onslaught of online criticism - with some calling it a ‘national disgrace’.

Holly and Phil were equally outraged at the result, so did a phone in of their own on This Morning, inviting viewers to cast their vote as the hosts munched their way through their favourite brands.

Britain's Favourite Crisp, which aired on Sunday, divided the crisps into a pyramid with the best at the top, followed by the top tier, mid tier and the bottom tier, labelled ‘don’t come anywhere near these’.

In the winning spots, dubbed the ‘god tier’, were Doritos, Pringles and Walkers.

Right at the bottom were Salt and Shake, Nik Naks, Squares and Mini Cheddars.

Holly opted for Frazzles, which didn’t even get a mention in the original list, while Phil went for Hoola Hoops, which only made the ‘mid tier’.

But then Holly noticed something about Monster Munch crisps that didn't look right.

“Do you know why I don’t think Monster Munch featured more highly?” she asked Phil.

“Because they’ve got small. When did Monster Munch shrink? They used to be bigger than that.”

But Phil tried to shut down her findings, telling her simply that her hands have got bigger.

The pair then debated about what the shapes of Monster Munch crisps were supposed to be - and eye, a claw or a monster with long arms.

“Is it an eye?” asked Holly.

“No it’s a foot,” answered Phil.

“Or is it a monster with long arms?” shot back Holly.

“Are we doing this on the telly?” said an exasperated Phil. “Are we actually doing this? We’re standing her eating crisps.”

Viewers took to Twitter to work out what they thought the shapes were, and whether they had shrunk over the years.

A second said: “Monster Munch used to be bigger, I agree with Holly. I think they’re a monster.”

A third posted: “monster munch are claws.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10.30am on ITV.
