Holly Willoughby shares her mum's unusual way to save money when cooking on This Morning

Holly Willoughby made a surprising cooking admission during today's edition of This Morning.

The TV presenter was joined by co-host Dermot O'Leary on the ITV show once again as This Morning celebrated the summer solstice and the longest day of the year.

Throughout Wednesday's edition of the daytime programme, Holly and Dermot caught up with former TOWIE star James Argent and headed over to Stonehenge to see how people were marking the astronomical first day of summer in the Northern Hemisphere.

The This Morning team was also on hand to discuss some helpful hacks and useful tips amid the ongoing cost of living crisis hitting millions of British people hard.

As bills continue to rise while wages remain stagnant, many cash-strapped shoppers have turned to using their microwaves more in a bid to save some money when cooking in their kitchen.

Dermot O'Leary and Holly Willoughby were delighted to team up for This Morning once again (ITV)

Year-on-year figures reveal an 8% increase in the number of meals prepared in microwave ovens in the 12 weeks to June 11, with people also opting to whip up meals with the help of air fryers, toasters and grills.

Sue Davies, from Which?, said of the findings: "These figures show that while food inflation is slowing, we’re now measuring against last year’s high prices which have been hammering the household budgets of millions who have been skipping meals for many months to make ends meet."

The findings were also discussed on This Morning today, as expert guests shared tips on how to live well for less and keep costs down.

As the popularity of the humble microwave was a talking point on the ITV show, Holly made a surprising confession.

"My mum used to cook a whole chicken in the microwave," the presenter revealed. "20 minutes - job done."
