Holly Willoughby says she was 'riddled with guilt' over missing her children’s first days of school

Holly Willoughby has opened up about her early years as a mum while presenting This Morning.

The TV presenter admitted she was "riddled with guilt" after missing her children's first days at school while she presented the popular ITV show.

Holly, who is married to TV producer Dan Baldwin, said her husbands support was crucial as she struggled to juggle being a mum-of-three and her television career.

The couple are parents to Harry, 11, Belle, nine, and five-year-old Chester.

Speaking in a new interview with Red magazine Holly said: "Becoming a mum was the only thing I knew I definitely wanted when I was growing up, but the image I had never involved me being a working mum. That’s the biggest challenge.

"I've been riddled with guilt about getting that part wrong. You love them so much and you don’t want to mess them up."

She went on to say that she "hated" missing her two eldest children's first days of school due to her busy schedule.

"I didn't do the drop-off because I was working. I hate that I wasn't there because those memories you can't get back.

"But I've realised the only way I can combat those feelings is to accept that sometimes I don't get it right. And I'm lucky I can be there every day to pick them up and at weekends."

Holly has previously hit out at the 'mummy brigade' who criticise her for working full-time and having a nanny to look after her children.

Speaking earlier this year she said: "I do have a nanny, otherwise the kids would have to walk themselves to school!

"A good work-life balance is, for me, the most important thing - and the biggest challenge I have. I'm lucky I do a job that allows me to do school pick-up, so I feel quite blessed to have that."

Holly is known for keeping her family life very private and never shows pictures of her children's faces on social media or when talking about them on This Morning.
