Holly Willoughby reveals why she was really missing from ITV This Morning on Monday

Fans of This Morning were left questioning Monday's hosting line-up when Holly Willoughby failed to turn up for her usual job.

The 38-year-old presenter was missing from the ITV show leaving Phillip Schofield to host without his pal and was joined by Rochelle Humes.

Schofe did assure viewers that Holly's absence wasn't permanent.

Opening the show, the 57-year-old said: "Holly's having a long weekend, so Rochelle is here."

But now Holly has updated her fans on her whereabouts, and she had a very showbiz reason for missing work.

The mum-of-three was busy enjoying a weekend in the city of Lucca in Italy and not only that, meeting up with none other than Sir Elton John.

Phillip was joined by Rochelle Humes on This Morning (ITV)

Posting a photo to her 5.6m Instagram followers of herself alongside Sir Elton and husband Dan Baldwin, Holly wrote: "What a weekend... huge thank you to @eltonjohn for putting on the most incredible concert in Lucca @luccasummerfestival #LSF19 ...

"Songs were sung, memories were made and dreams can true when Elton dedicated a song to Dan and I ❤ thank you @bengibsonphoto for taking this picture! #eltonfarewelltour."

Speaking on Tuesday's show upon her return, Holly excitedly revealed that Sir Elton even dedicated a song to the married couple.

She told Phil: "Dan and I have a favourite lyric in 'Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues'...

"I told him [Elton] that and didn't think anything of it and then we went to see the concert and Elton goes, 'I'm dedicating this song to Holly and Dan'.

"It was one of the most magical moments of my life ever."

But one eagle-eyed fan was quick to joke: "That explains today's Sickie."

Sir Elton is currently completing a string of international dates on his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

The legendary singer will bring his final show to the UK at the end of 2020 - including Manchester Arena on Tuesday 17 and Saturday 28 November 2020.

Holly then followed up her first post with another gorgeous snap as she basked in the Italian sunshine.

She said: "Ciao Tuscany... you’ve been bellissima!"

This Morning is on ITV1 weekdays and Sundays from 10:30am.
