Holly Willoughby reveals Christmas 'rule of six' family split heartache

Holly Willoughby has revealed she will be forced to choose between her mum or dad at Christmas, if Boris Johnson's 'rule of six' is still in force come December.

The Prime Minister revealed yesterday (September 9) that social gatherings, in doors and out, for people in England will be restricted to just six people from different households for the foreseeable future.

Boris Johnson announced the new measures after a spike in the number of positive cases of coronavirus in England over the last week.

Despite the Prime Minister saying the new rule will be kept under constant review, it has left many, including Holly, facing a tough decision if the rule is still being applied come Christmas.

Speaking to her co-host, Phillip Schofield and Matthew Wright and Nicola Thorp, Holly revealed it's "not a nice thing to look forward to": "I guess a lot of people will be thinking about what this will mean for Christmas. What will Christmas look like?

What Boris Johnson had to say about the possibility of Christmas being cancelled

"It's going to be very awkward in my house, I'm a family of five."

After a short, deep breath, Holly added: "So, I'll have to choose between my mum and dad on Christmas Day.

"This is not a nice thing to look forward to."

Chat show personality Matthew Wright went on to say: "It's not nice. Phil just used the phrase 'The new normal' and this is going to be apart of the 'new normal'.

"I have no doubt about it, Christmas this year is going to be different from all previous years.

"I have a very gloomy feeling in the pit of my stomach, we'll still be having this conversation at the back end of next year as well."

This Morning returns at 10am every weekday morning on ITV.
