Holly Willoughby responds to fan reaction after first episode of Freeze the Fear

Holly Willoughby has spoken out following the first episode of Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof on BBC One. The new series follows eight celebrity contestants as they undertake a series of icy challenges that will test them to their limits, both physically and mentally.

Among the contestants taking part is Welsh weather presenter Owain Wyn Evans and Strictly Come Dancing professional Dianne Buswell. As well as Alfie Boe, Chelcee Grimes, Gabby Logan, Patrice Evra, Professor Green and Tamzin Outhwaite. You can read more about the Freeze the Fear cast list in full, here.

The series sees the celebrities give up their warm cosy lives to live in the Italian mountains in sub-zero conditions. Once there they will face daunting cold tasks while being guided by Wim Hof aka The Iceman, who believes that embracing the cold can change their lives for the better. The show is presented by This Morning's Holly Willoughby and comedian Lee Mack. And following the first episode, Holly has thanked fans for their messages and teased what is yet to come.

Sharing a picture on location in the Italian Alps, Holly told her 7.7 million followers: "Thank you for all your Freeze the Fear love… Every episode we delve deeper into @iceman_hof method, we've only just seen the tip of the iceberg. It's fascinating to watch the celebs change and react to the process… right off for a cold shower."

Holly also responded to questions regarding her outfit, telling fans: "Jacket and hat @goldbergh and for those asking about my [sunglasses] the [big round] ones were an old pair of mine from @moncler … think they still have similar."

It comes after some viewers compared the new television show with taking a bath as the cost of living rises. The first episode showed celebrities plunging into an ice pit with the help of Wim Hof.

One Twitter user wrote: "Look how wonderful it is to be cold. Is this a Government-sponsored information show to get us to turn that central heating off?" While another added: "Thanks to the energy prices cold water is all I'm getting anyway!" You can read more reactions to the first episode of Freeze the Fear, here.

Freeze the Fear with Wim Hof continues Tuesday at 9pm on BBC One. For more showbiz and television stories, get our newsletter here.
