Holly Willoughby missing from This Morning as she's replaced after Christmas break

This Morning viewers were left confused as Holly Willoughby was missing and replaced by Rochelle Humes, who joined Phillip Schofield today on the show.

Phil and Holly have taken time off during the festive period, appearing only during the pre-recorded Christmas Day special, but were due to return to the ITV daytime show today.

Instead, however, Phil was joined by Rochelle at his side for the very first This Morning episode of 2021.

Introducing the episode today, Phil welcomed viewers to the programme and explained Holly's absence.

He said: "Holly is spending a couple of extra days with the family."

Viewers took to Twitter to comment, with one asking: "Is holly home schooling?"

While another joked: "No Holly again, let me guess she's 'taking a well deserved day off' just like last time, yeah right. #thismorning."

This comes after Holly missed several days in November last year, sparking concern from fans.

Holly was replaced by Alison Hammond and then Davina McCall, with her absence explained as "having a day off".

Worried fans took to Twitter to comment, with fans speculating that there was "something wrong".

One tweeted: "Holly’s having a day off? She has Friday, Saturday, Sunday off every week and every school holiday. Why not just say somethings going on she’s got personal reasons?? What other reason would she be off 2 days on the bounce? Hope she’s ok?! #ThisMorning."

Another commented: "Hope Holly’s okay though #ThisMorning."

*This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
