Holly Willoughby in tears as Julia Bradbury recalls moving moment with kids after surgery

Holly Willoughby was wiping away tears on Thursday's This Morning as she and Phillip Schofield welcomed Julia Bradbury into the studio.

The TV presenter joined the duo in the ITV studio to discuss her new documentary Julia Bradbury: Breast Cancer and Me and why she felt the need to make the hour-long film.

At one point, Julia spoke about being reunited with her kids after having her surgery and a clip from the documentary was shown.

As the camera cut back to the studio, Holly's voice was on edge as she admitted: "Well that got me..." and she definitely had a tear in her eye.

"No, I can't look at that without it getting me," Julia admitted as Holly replied: "Yeah I'm not surprised!"

Julia continued: "The kids have been amazing and they've made friends with my new boob and they say, 'mummy it doesn't feel the same', and I say, 'no it doesn't feel the same but I'm here and that's what it's done'."

Speaking about saying goodbye to her breast before she had her mastectomy, Julia said: "It was a really cathartic and helpful thing for me to do and I wanted to share that with people, and other women have said, 'thank you', and not just women but men as well."

Julia Bradbury was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021 and underwent a mastectomy shortly after (ITV)

She continued: "It's a really traumatic thing, it's a very brutal procedure and you know, I considered myself to be quite fortunate because of the treatment I've had... and I've lost a breast. But I have a replacement breast there.

"There is no nice way to treat cancer, it is pretty horrible," she added as Holly and Phil looked in awe of her.

Julia also spoke about the moment she told her children the diagnosis and said: "Telling your children you have cancer is the hardest thing you’ll ever have to do in your life.

"You also don’t know how much you tell them to be realistic, and how much do you need to protect them.. It’s a very tricky balance. I don’t think any parent really knows what to do."

She added: "One of my children said, ‘Can I still hug you’ and the other said, ‘Is it contagious?' I never thought about either of those two things. You just don’t know what’s going through their mind.

"You do your best, but it’s a very difficult thing to navigate.” Julia also explained she didn’t tell her mum the diagnosis until she knew herself what the plans were for treatment, because she knew she would worry so much," Julia said.

"Well done you," Holly told her at the end of the interview as Julia revealed she is in good physical health and looking forward to the future.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV and ITV Hub.
