Holly Willoughby 'ignores' schoolgirl pointing out spelling mistake during World Book Day segment

Holly Willoughby accidentally blanked a young schoolgirl who was trying to correct her on This Morning.

The little girl, dressed in a purple costume for World Book Day, decided to point out that her name was “spelt wrong” just as her classmate was about to start reading aloud.

But Willoughby seemed to struggle to hear what was said, instead choosing to carry on with the segment as other schoolchildren piled into the studio.

“Here we go. Are you ready? Go for it,” Willoughby cooed just after the girl interjected “you spelt my name wrong”.

But the moment didn’t go unnoticed by some This Morning fans, who accused Willoughby of 'ignoring' the little girl.

“Did that girl just say ‘you spelt my name wrong’ and holly ignored her hahahah,” wrote one viewer.

Another added: “Bless her. ‘You spelt my name wrong’. Ignored..! Phil wouldn’t of ignored her [sic].”

Somebody else said they were “howling” at the moment, writing: “Could of at least said oh sorry we’ll sort it in a minute.”

This Morning co-host Phil is sick

Willoughby was forced to fly solo on Thursday’s show after Phillip Schofield phoned in sick.

“You might have noticed I’m all by myself,” the presenter said as she opened the show. “Phillip is not well today so we are wishing him lots of love and hope he is better soon.”

Willoughby begged viewers to “stay with her” as she admitted that it was “very strange sitting in his chair”.

This Morning is on ITV, weekdays at 10.30am
