Holly Willoughby falls victim to hilarious April Fools' prank from Philip Schofield on This Morning

People across the nation are testing out their funny bones today (April 1) by pranking their loved ones for April Fools' Day.

And it seems Philip Schofield couldn't resist getting involved, as he subjected Holly Willoughby to such a joke on live TV.

It all happened on This Morning and - ever the professional - Holly managed to keep her cool.

She was given quite the shock during the Monday makeover section of the show.

And she was the only person in the whole studio who was not in on the joke, Wales Online reports.

It started with 'Carol' seeing herself for the first time post makeover and breaking down in tears on the ITV show.

Holly rushed to console her, telling her she looked beautiful in her pink crushed velvet dress and white cowboy boots.

Carol said she wanted to leave, her husband 'Pete' rushing to her side as they stormed off the show into a car.

And in a further twist, the car then smashed into the side of the studio causing smoke to emanate from under the hood.

Presenter Lisa Snowdon was in charge of presenting the Monday makeover, alongside celebrity hairdresser Nicky Clarke - but they were all in on the joke with Phil.

Holly burst into tears herself when she realised the truth that 'Carol' and 'Pete' were actually actors.

Holly said she was shaking as she wiped tears of laughter away from her eyes, saying she needed a gin.

She said: "I am so glad it wasn't real."

Viewers thought that Holly had handled the situation very well.

When DJ Chris Moyles wished Phillip Schofield a happy 60th birthday on 60th, it spiralled and news spread.

Birthday wishes started pouring in, including a video message from Dame Judi Dench, but Phil is not 60 for another three years.

The hashtag #happy60thphillipschofield has been trending all morning.

Luckily Phil found the prank hilarious - but was keen to make it clear with fans he still had a way to go before hitting the  milestone.

Writing back to Chris with lots of laughing emojis, Philip said:"And YOU are an utter sh*t!! not60forawhileyet"

The tweet delighted his 4.25m followers, with over a thousand fans liking his comment.
