Holly Willoughby clapped so hard for carers she broke her wooden spoon

Holly Willoughby threw her support behind the NHS 'clap for carers' last night.

And as the This Morning host got into the spirit of showing her appreciation for key workers she damaged her wooden spoon - that she was using to bash against a cooking pot in order to make a loud sound.

Revealing what happened the TV presenter, 39, shared a snap of her damaged kitchen utensil on Instagram.

The ITV favourite typed alongside the offering: " #clapforourcarers #nhs."

Proving that Holly is not the first person to have broken a wooden cooking item during the sessions of applause, Ruth Langsford commented below: "Did the same last week....used a metal one last night!"

On Thursday night he country came to a halt at 8pm for the fourth time in as many weeks to applaud the tireless efforts made by NHS staff to tackle the coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak.

Whether it was applauding on their doorstep or balcony, the country grinded to a halt at 8pm to take a moment to thank nurses, doctors and other health workers who are tirelessly tackling the Covid-19 outbreak.

It was the fourth time in as many weeks Britain thanked our NHS heroes.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson also joined the nation in thanking the NHS and care workers from his country home in Chequers, where he is recovering.

A No10 spokesman said: "Like millions of people across the country, the Prime Minister joined in the clap for carers this evening, to say thank you for the incredible efforts of the country’s doctors, nurses and care workers."

Mr Johnson's pregnant fiancee Carrie Symonds also tweeted: "Clapping harder than ever tonight for our carers.

"You are the best of Britain. Also clapping for @captaintommoore who has now raised over £15m for our NHS. Not only have you raised an enormous amount of money but you’ve inspired us all."

Meanwhile, Mayor of London Sadiq Khan tweeted a video in which boats could be seen with blue lights on along the River Thames. He said: "Best moment of the week. To everyone working flat out on the frontline in the fight against COVID19: thank you!"

Fireworks and cheers could also be heard around the country.
