Holly Willoughby backs 'beautiful' John Lewis Christmas advert after complaints

Holly Willoughby shared how much she liked the new John Lewis Christmas advert, after its release on Thursday morning.

After viewers of the ad appeared divided over whether they liked it or not, Holly shared her thoughts and called it "beautiful" amid some complaints it "wasn't very good".

The two-minute advert is soundtracked by up and coming 20-year-old British singer-songwriter Lola Young, from South London, who performs her version of 80s classic, Together in Electric Dreams, which was originally released by Philip Oakey and Giorgio Moroder in 1984.

The advert "celebrates the magic of Christmas moments experienced for the first time", with the prospect of families and friends being together this year after they were unable to celebrate with each other 12 months ago.

The commercial sees Nathan, 14, on his way home from school when he spots a flashing light in the distance and chases it to the woods beside his house.

Here he encounters 14 year old space traveller Skye and her ship from another galaxy.

The pair then spark a friendship as Nathan helps her to discover the magic of her first Christmas.

While many viewers of the clip have confessed to being in tears as ever with the brand's festive videos, others are just not feeling it.

But Holly was ready to defend the ad, impressed with the moving clip this year, and praising the "beautiful" music that accompanied it.

She said: "It's divided people hasn't it this one."

Co-host Phillip Schofield replied: "Yeah, a mixed reaction," before he read out comments including some that said it was not as good as others, as many said they were loving it.

Holly then said: "I liked it! I thought the music was beautiful, I really liked it. I loved the little story. I think the more you watch it the more it grows on you."

Phillip slightly disagreed though, saying: "It was a scary alien though. If that alien had been a bit like E.T. or a creation, or an animation or something, would that not have made it a bit more..."

Holly disagreed with him though, while she wasn't sure if it was the alien that sparked the complaints.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
