Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield's incredibly kind gesture to disabled bride-to-be on This Morning

There was not a dry eye in the This Morning house today as hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield made an incredibly kind gesture to a disabled bride-to-be.

Melissa, from Letchworth Garden City, was today’s player for the ITV show’s ‘dosh on your doorstep’ competition - and she got more than she ever could have hoped for.

After an emotional meeting at her front door, Melissa went on to do incredibly well, answering all the questions right and winning £1,000.

But that wasn't the end of it.

Holly and Phil not only doubled that with their own money, but also offered her something really thoughtful.

Alison Hammond, who presents the segment, explained that Melissa was struggling to get a wedding dress due to her disability.

She said: “Melissa was just saying that she’s tried to get a wedding dress and she’s phoned so many shops.

“Because she’s told them that she is disabled, no one has got back to her. So I was wondering if there’s any shops out there that would be willing…”

But Schofe interrupted to say that they would sort everything.

Waving his hands, he said: “We’ll do it, Alison, she doesn’t need a shop, we’ve got an amazing team down here.”

Holly chipped in: “Come in, we will help you.”

Alison, welling up, relayed the information to Melissa, and the pair broke down and hugged each other.

Still embracing Melissa, who was visibly overwhelmed by their generosity, Alison said: “Thank you, it was really worrying me.”

Phil then asked whether Melissa would be able to visit the studio for her makeover.

“Is she mobile enough to come to London?” he asked.

Melissa just about managed to say “yes” as Alison continued to comfort her.

The camera then panned to Melissa’s mum, who was just sitting out of shot and was shedding tears of joy herself.

“Thank you, she has been through so much,” said her mum.

“I’m all emosh,” said Alison.

Holly continued: We can’t wait to have you, we can’t wait to see you, well done.”

Viewers were equally touched by their gesture.

One tweeted: “This was so lovely with the dress and the extra cash off phil&holly happy Thursday folks.”

Another gushed: “Ohh Alison at her BEST.. what a lovely moment for your competition winner extra £1000.. and a Wedding dress, what a lovely morning visit that was.”

A third said: “Well done all of you. That was so lovely. Brought a tear to my eye. Hope Melissa has a great wedding day.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
