Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield got stuck in a lift at the National Television Awards

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield very nearly couldn't celebrate their National Television Awards win after getting stuck in a lift.

The This Morning duo were trapped in an elevator that wouldn’t stop going up and down with a number of TV stars including, Emma Willis and Paddy McGuinness on Tuesday night.

Willoughby admitted she “didn’t’ realise” they were stuck because she was busy chatting to star-struck fans.

Speaking on This Morning Willoughby said: “I didn’t realise we got stuck in a lift because I found two ladies in the corner of the lift that couldn’t believe they were stuck in a lift with Emma Willis and everybody [that] was there together. And they were like ‘we just walked in a lift and now you lot are all in here’. I was yabbing away.”

Schofield added: “What’s more, we were in there for quite some time. We went up and down and then the door opened and then we realised we were on the wrong floor so we had to go back to where we thought we were going in the first place!”

The revelation comes after the pair arrived in style to the This Morning studios after celebrating their ninth consecutive Daytime award win.

The duo sported slick leather jackets as they rode into the studio on the back of motorbikes.

The win didn’t go down well with Good Morning Britain host Piers Morgan, who admitted he was still “livid” at the loss this morning.

Morgan instead celebrated enjoying a meat-feast breakfast, after vowing to go vegan if the show took the gong from This Morning.
