Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield forced to halt This Morning cookery segment after fire breaks out

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left in shock as a fire broke out on This Morning during the cooking segment.

Chef John Torode was making a version of a McDonald’s meal from his home when flames could be seen starting to flare up behind him.

The telly hosts, who were in the comfort and safety of the ITV studio, were forced to halt proceedings and shout at John that there was a fire starting behind him.

A tea towel, which had been sat on his cooker, then burst into flames as John grabbed it and thrust it into the sink and under water.

Holly squealed: “John your tea towel is on fire! Turn around, turn around!”

Phil shouted: “John your cooker’s on fire, your tea towel! Behind you! Fire, John!”

John kept cool and calm as he distinguished the flames, while Holly, Phil and the crew could be heard nervously laughing.

John dealt with it swiftly, saying: “Thank you, thank you.”

Holly asked: “Are you ok? You were so calm and cool about that.”

Phil pointed out that’s because he didn’t actually know about the fire.

John professionally went straight back to what he was doing, and the segment resumed.

That is, until the fire alarm went off.

“Oh god I love this show so much,” giggled Phil, as Holly squealed.

John managed to get the alarm turned off, before resuming again.

After they had finished, Holly and Phil’s sausage and egg McMuffin copies, along with hash browns, were proudly displayed to the viewers.

Phil quipped: “We’ve cooked, we've had a fire, we’ve had a chat.”

Holly said: “I can’t believe that happened.

“Well done, thank you. Go and have a lie down in a dark room.”

This Morning airs weekdays from 10am on ITV.
