Holly Willoughby and Phil Schofield won't have extra security for NTAs despite booing fears

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield won't be having extra security for the NTAs - despite fears that they could be booed by crowds.

The pair have found themselves at the centre of controversy after being falsely accused of jumping the queue to see the Queen lying-in-state.

Holly and Phil released a pre-recorded statement on This Morning the following Tuesday insisting they would 'never jump a queue' and explained they had media accreditation.

Despite that, public anger continued to mount and a petition calling for them to be sacked from ITV has reached over 76,000 signatures.

Yet the hosts are said to be keen to attend the NTAs on October 13, but bosses are believed to be worried that they could be subjected to booing crowds.

It comes after Holly and Phil were subjected to a torrent of online abuse after the accusations of queue-jumping, prompting "serious concerns" about their well-being.

Despite reports that ITV are aware that the NTAs could pose "risks" for the hosts and that there will be "measures" put in place, a source has told the Mirror: "They are coming as they do each year. No extra personnel."

Holly and Phil haven't missed the NTAs in years and while they regret any offence caused, they insist that they haven't done anything wrong.

In a pre-recorded statement, which aired the following Tuesday, Holly told viewers: "Like hundreds of accredited broadcasters and journalists we were given official permission to access the hall.

"It was strictly for the purpose of reporting on the event for millions of people in the UK who haven’t been able to visit Westminster in person.

"The rules were that we would be quickly escorted around the edges to a platform at the back. In contrast those paying respects walked along a carpeted area beside the coffin and were given time to pause.

"None of the broadcasters and journalists took anyone's places in the queue and no one filed past the Queen.

"We of course respected those rules however we realised that it may have looked like something else and therefore we totally understand the reaction.

"Please know that we would never jump a queue."

The NTAs declined to comment when approached by the Mirror.

The Mirror has contacted ITV for comment.
