Holly Willoughby and Janet Street Porter clash in spat over comments about Boris Johnson's baby

Holly Willoughby and Janet Street-Porter took each other on in a spat over Boris Johnson on Thursday's This Morning, with viewers slamming Janet for her 'vile' comments.

The atmosphere got decidedly frosty in the studio as the usually mild-mannered presenter took on always outspoken guest Janet over the subject of the Prime Minister's new baby boy.

Janet has taken exception to the fact that Boris and fiancee Carrie Symonds' baby son was conceived last year when there was massive unrest over Brexit and who would be running the country, saying it was "bad timing," adding: "he was supposed to be campaigning for an election nine months ago."

Holly couldn't hide her shock at Janet's comments and she snapped: "Oh Janet!"

Defending Boris and Carrie's decision to have a baby when they did, Holly shouted: " But you don't know! You don't know anything about this! We don't know if they've tried for a long time. We don't know! We don't want to know, do we need to know?!" adding: "Carrie is a human being in all of this. You can’t forget her in this."

Many This Morning viewers agree with Holly, with one tweeting: "Please can you take Janet Street Porter of your show? She should be ashamed vile, sexist comments about the Prime Ministers baby! As a regular viewer, I’m disgusted with what she has said today!!"

Another angry viewer reacted: "Have I just heard that correctly on live TV!!!? ....Janet Street Porter so desperate to be edgy and relevant has just criticized the timing of Boris Johnson’s baby being born. Ffs."

However, others sided with Janet, with one tweeting: "I am pleased for the parents, of course, but Janet Street-Porter makes a very good point," and another responding: "How times have changed, never in a million years did I think I would be agreeing with Janet Street-Porter."
