Holly and Phillip stunned by Newcastle woman's "remarkable" act of generosity after Lottery win

This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were left stunned by a Newcastle woman's "remarkable" act of generosity after she scooped £2.7million on the National Lottery.

It was 25 years ago that Elaine Thompson from Killingworth was left gobsmacked in her living room after her numbers came up in the live TV draw, while her husband was in London for a Newcastle match.

Appearing via video call and recalling the life-changing night on Wednesday's show, she told Holly and Phillip : "I said to the kids 'I think we might have won £10' but then I checked the numbers and the very first line was the winning numbers.

"I felt sick, I started to laugh and then I burst into tears."

Elaine looked shocked as Phillip revealed to her that her 1995 Lottery win would have been worth £5.2million in today's money but then both he and Holly were shocked as she told them what she did with £1million of her prize.

She said: "I gave it to my brother. I didn't have a father; he was a runaway and my brother brought me up with my mum. And what a way to say thank you to him."

A stunned Holly said: "What an incredible thing to do," with co-host Phillip adding: "Fabulous."

Last week, Elaine told Chronicle Live, that she refused to give up working despite the huge boost to her bank balance, as she wanted to be a good role model for her children.

She said: "I had two young children at the time when I made the decision.

"It's important that children see you working hard, and that we don't get anything out of life unless you work hard for it."
