NTA winners 2019: Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield triumph as Emmerdale and Bodyguard win big

Big win: Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield (Picture: Dave Benett)

This Morning and Bodyguard were among the big winners at the National Television Awards as the best of British TV was honoured.

Ant McPartlin and Declan Donnelly joined the show live from the Britain’s Got Talent auditions to thank fans for helping them win the coveted Best Presenter gong.

McPartlin admitted that he “didn’t feel he could accept the award” as he praised his best mate for “flying the flag” in his absence following a drink-driving charge and a stint in rehab last year.

Their win marked the 18th consecutive year they have picked up the title, fighting off competition from Graham Norton, Bradley Walsh, Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby.

Best performance: Richard Madden with his gong for Bodyguard (Dave Benett)

Schofield and Willoughby continued their reign, taking home the Best Daytime award for This Morning. The duo warned viewers ahead of Tuesday night's ceremony that they may be a little worse for wear on Wednesday morning's show should they win.

David Walliams was honoured with the Best Judge accolade for Britain's Got Talent which missed out on Best Talent Show to Strictly Come Dancing.

Gripping BBC drama Bodyguard was acknowledged, taking home Best New Drama as well as Best Performance in a Drama for Richard Madden who played troubled PC Budd.

Gangster hit Peaky Blinders walked away with Best Drama while Emmerdale fought off its fellow soaps to win Best Serial.

Former Question Time host David Dimbleby received the Special Recognition Award for his contribution to TV, and spent his lengthy speech praising the BBC.

Dermot O'Leary was on hand to host this year's star-studded ceremony at London's O2 Arena where guests included Michelle Keegan, Mark Wright, Dani Dyer, Jack Fincham and Georgia Toffolo.
