Holly and Phil shocked as ITV star gives up presenting to become teacher

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were shocked to learn that Michael Underwood gave up presenting to become a primary school teacher.

Michael, who is married to Angelica Bell, was on the show to promote Chris Evans' 500 words writing competition for children.

But Holly and Phil were shocked to see him do a piece-to-camera from the classroom.

It was then Michael revealed he was no longer part of the entertainment industry, and instead works with as a teacher.

He told Holly and Phil that when work was drying up, rather than sitting at home and waiting for the phone to ring, he thought he would be proactive and use his teaching degree.

As well as Holly and Phil, fans were stunned by the revelation, with many taking to Twitter.

Lizzie Cundy said: "My old buddy Michael Underwood is a teacher !!! Wow I never knew !!"

Stevie Lowe tweeted: "Michael Underwood is now a teacher?!"

Ryan wrote: "OMG Micheal Underwood is a teacher. Well I never."

Michael is known for hosting a wide-variety of programmes including CITV classic Jungle Run.

From 2005 until 2008, he was the entertainment correspondent for GMTV.

And he also appeared on Dancing on Ice in 2009, after he broke his ankle in the run-up to the third show in 2008.
