Holly and Phil share awkward kiss after he makes dig at Eamonn amid This Morning 'feud'

Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield have denied they've had a feud and tried to put the rumours to bed on Thursday's episode of This Morning.

It was the pair's last appearance of the year before going on their Christmas break and they shared a rather awkward goodbye kiss over a glass of bubbly.

It came as Phil made an awkward dig at Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes after reports that she made a formal complaint about him.

In the last few minutes of the show, Phil said: "That's all for today and for this year. We're not here tomorrow because of the general election coverage."

Holly added: "Eamonn and Ruth are back with you on Monday but we hope you have a wonderful Christmas and we'll see you in the new year."

"With a longer show we'll see you at 10am on Monday 6th January, merry Christmas," Phil said.

"Merry Christmas see you in January!" Holly said.

Phil then turned to Holly for a kiss and she awkwardly leaned in before they clinked their glasses.

"Merry Christmas!" Holly said again.

The pair were still sat with their arms around each other as the camera panned away.

It followed what appeared to be a dig from Phil at Ruth and Eamonn's expense.

Holly had said she was sad that the show was over for the year for the two of them before offering to stay on over Christmas.

Phil said: "Eamonn and Ruth would be very angry – they planned their whole Christmas around this!"

It's thought that Ruth and Phil fell out when he interrupted her while she introduced what was coming up on Loose Women.

And in another awkward moment from today's episode, Alison Hammond joked that she would never see Phil again now he's left for Christmas.

ITV has dismissed rumours of a 'toxic atmosphere' on This Morning as "malicious gossip", insisting there's no issue between Phillip and his co-host Holly.

"It's deeply disappointing and unfair for Phillip to be the target of this sort of malicious gossip," said a spokeswoman for the broadcaster.

"Phillip is a much respected broadcaster and colleague and this is absolutely not a description of This Morning that we recognise.

"Holly and Phil are great friends both on and off screen and are popular among viewers and colleagues alike."
