Holly and Phil floored as viewer hangs up during Spin to Win and tells them to call back later

This Morning hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield were stunned on Wednesday's show as they played the latest game of Spin to Win.

As the TV duo started calling viewers at random to play the competition, a man named Joe picked up and said the correct passphrase - but he wasn't ready to play just yet.

As he told Holly and Phil his name and location, he suddenly asked them: "Can you call me back in two minutes please?" and then hung up the phone.

The pair were gobsmacked as they joked: "This is national television, Joe!"

However, Phillip said that they would air a pre-recorded competition video instead and then return to Joe.

Finally ready to talk, Phillip asked Joe: "What the hell was that all about?!" but he was more than satisfied with Joe's response.

Joe explained that he had to tend to his wife, explaining: "Because I was dealing with my wife and she’s not very well, she has motor neurone disease."

"Awwwwwwwww," Holly responded, as Phillip said that was "the best excuse".

Joe went on to win £1,000 as he decided to play the game using the wheel and Holly was even willing to give him the bag of goodies without making him answer a question correctly.

As the pair continued chatting to Joe, the line began to break up and Phillip told him to call back and pass on a message.

Towards the end of Wednesday's show, Phillip interrupted the gadget segment to relay what Joe had wanted to say.

"Could we please say hello to Susan, his wife. She's a massive fan of the show and she watches every day," Phillip announced.

Viewers found the whole thing hilarious but many felt that This Morning should have just given him the £3,000 prize.

"Imagine asking ITV to work to your schedule #thismorning," one person tweeted, followed by several laughing face emojis.

"Joe was caring for his wife? Give him the £3k straight #ThisMorning," another posted.

Many viewers felt that This Morning should have just given Joe the highest prize of £3,000 (ITV)

A third added: "Should have just given the guy the £3000 #ThisMorning," while a fourth penned: "Just give Joe the 3 bloody grand #ThisMorning."

Another viewer tweeted: "Watching Spin to Win makes my morning when working from home honestly, bless Joe, glad he made his priorities clear and made sure his wife was okay but gutted he didn’t win the jackpot! #thismorning."

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV.
