Hollow Knight Silksong fans convinced Sea of Sorrow's release window was just confirmed, with evidence so compelling they can't agree on what that window is

Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Hollow Knight: Silksong might have been released last year, but that's not stopped the Silkposting, as many fans are now convinced that the Sea of Sorrow DLC's release window has just been narrowed down. Problem is, their apparent evidence is so up for interpretation that even the most devout hopefuls can't agree on exactly what release window it supposedly implies.

Yesterday, Fangamer unveiled a physical edition of Hollow Knight: Silksong – you can pre-order a copy now for PS5, Xbox Series X/S (the same version works for Xbox One), or Switch 2 (also compatible with Switch 1) ahead of its release on October 16. As well as the game itself – because who doesn't love to own a physical copy to display proudly on a shelf – it also comes with a map of Pharloom and a 32-page game manual, making it a real treat for collectors.

Neat as all those bonuses might be, though, fans are currently focused on a line thrown in at the end of the product listing: "Sea of Sorrow DLC is not included on game media but will be available to download for free." So, the DLC – which is currently aiming for release at some point this year – won't be included on the disc or cartridge.

But wait. Could that mean… the DLC will be able to download as soon as you get your hands on the physical edition? Does that mean… Sea of Sorrow will be out at some point before October 16? That's certainly what plenty of hopeful fans make of it, declaring: "OKAY SO WE TECHNICALLY NOW HAVE A RELEASE WINDOW OF BEFORE OCTOBER 16TH."

"I would say it implies it will be out BY October 16th!" another comments on Reddit, as another gets a little ahead of themselves: "SEA OF SORROW TOMMOROW!"

There's just a bit of a flaw in this revelation – it seems just as many people have drawn the exact opposite conclusion from the same nugget of information. "SEA OF SORROW WONT BE OUT UNTIL AFTER OCTOBER 16TH," a separate Reddit post confidently announces. "I feel like that means that sea of sorrow isn't coming out until after mid-October," another says, responding to the line.

I hate to be the one to say it, but alas, I really think this one could go either way, to the point that the physical game listing doesn't prove anything. As fan account Daily Silksong News on Twitter points out, making the decision to keep the DLC off the physical copies will give Team Cherry "more flexibility to release it either before or after October 16" – after all, Sea of Sorrow wouldn't just have to be ready for that date if it was going to be included, it'd have to be ready in time for the discs and cartridges to be manufactured, whenever that may be.

We'll just have to be patient for now, and that's something that Hollow Knight fans are used to. Hang in there, folks.

"Entire nations will hate you": Steam expert warns devs to use good regional pricing and localization if they don't want Silksong-style review bombs.
