Feb. 16--Milwaukee Repertory Theater announced its 2016-17 season on Monday, including a spring production of "The Glass Menagerie" starring Chicago actress Hollis Resnik.
Resnik will star as Amanda in Tennessee Williams' memory play from March 7 -- April 9 on the Quadracci Powerhouse stage. The production will be helmed by artistic director Mark Clements.
The company's mainstage season at the Quadracci Powerhouse also includes the Don Quixote musical "Man of La Mancha," (Sept. 20 -- Oct. 30) to be directed by Clements. Laura Gordon will take on Larry Shue's mistaken identity comedy "The Foreigner" (Nov. 15 -- Dec. 18) and Marcela Lorca will direct "Disgraced," (Jan. 17 -- Feb. 12) Ayad Akhtar's play about clashing identities that premiered at American Theater Company in 2012 and was the most produced play in the U.S. of the 2015-16 season. A new adaptation of "Jane Eyre," originally produced by the U.K.'s Shared Experience Theatre Company and directed by KJ Sanchez, runs April 25 -- May 21.
In the Stiemke Studio, a production of "The Royale," the boxing drama from Marco Ramirez seen last year in Chicago at American Theater Company, will run Sept. 8 -- Nov. 6. Laura Braza will direct George Brant's "Grounded," (Feb. 22 -- April 2) a one-woman show about a fighter pilot balancing work and motherhood.
In the Stackner Cabaret is Lanie Robertson's "Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill," (Sept. 9 -- Oct. 3) the Irving Berlin revue "I Love a Piano," (Nov. 4 -- Jan. 15) Dick Enberg's "McGuire," (Jan. 20 -- March 19) and Frank Ferrante's "An Evening With Groucho" (March 24 -- May 28).
Off-subscription programming will also include a new adaptation of "A Christmas Carol" from Clements, playing in the Pabst Theater from Nov. 29 -- Dec. 24.
