Hollington Drive viewers switch off as they spot blunders and moan about 'mumbling'

Viewers tuning into new ITV drama Hollington Drive on Wednesday evening claimed they were struggling to hear the dialogue.

The four-part series tells a dark story about the disappearance of a child from a picturesque suburban neighbourhood.

Episode one unfolded from the perspective of two sisters, Helen (Rachael Stirling) and Theresa (Anna Maxwell Martin), the latter of whom fears her son may be involved in the uncertain fate of the missing classmate.

However, as the hour-long episode got going, viewers were quick to take to Twitter to moan about the sound - as well as a few other blunders.

" What the f**k are they even saying? Struggling even with subtitles #HollingtonDrive," one person tweeted.

Another posted: "#HollingtonDrive. Have had to put subtitles on. Mumbling.

A third added: "After a decent looking trailer, this is being let down by bad sound, a very slow start and characters you can't get attached to. Not great as an opening episode, think it will be 1 and done #HollingtonDrive."

And someone else tweeted: "The location for this is very strange, doesn’t quite feel British or relatable? Also the sound is a bit iffy. Not the best considering the trailer was so good #HollingtonDrive."

Another annoyed viewer posted: "OH MY GOD STOP MUMBLING #HollingtonDrive."

Several blunders were also pointed out throughout the episode, such as one character being able to stroll into the missing boy's bedroom - despite a missing person investigation being ongoing.

"Police family liaison office? Alex’s bedroom would be sealed off surely? #HollingtonDrive," one viewer asked.

Someone else spotted an inaccuracy in regards to how headmistress Helen dealt with the missing child news.

"I work in a school. That teacher has NOT been attending her mandatory #safeguarding training. All those issues are drummed into us to report in house to a particular reporting system or if extreme, higher up.Not after the event fgs ridiculous #hollingtondrive This is not shaping up (sic)," they posted.

However, other viewers thoroughly enjoyed it and were eagerly awaiting episode two.

"Great start to #HollingtonDrive tonight. I’ve already picked my culprit and it’s not who you think… I can’t wait to see if I’m right!" one person posted.

Another said: "Episode One of Hollington Drive was pretty impressive, if achingly sad. Looking forward to Episode Two next week but the BIG question is: how come everyone has such enormous houses??!"

Hollington Drive continues Wednesdays at 9pm on ITV.
