The Two and a Half Men actress Holland Taylor has spoken candidly about her “extraordinary” relationship with a younger woman.
Taylor, 72, said she decided to speak publicly about her relationship because she has never hidden her sexuality from her friends. “I haven’t come out because I live out,” she said.
Speaking to WNYC for their Death, Sex and Money podcast, the British actress described her relationship with another woman.
She said she has never had a relationship that deeply affected her life and the way she lives it until now. "It has a much more important place in my life," she said.
When asked about whether she has plans to marry her partner, she replied: “Given my generation it would not be something that would automatically occur to me. But she’s mentioned it because just from a spiritual point of view, from a heart point of view, as a deed that has very rich symbolic gesture to it, it has its attractions. It been a very casual conversation at this point, but it would be a very private thing. I would not do it publically."
Taylor said she had been "wrestling" with identifying her partner. "I don't like talking about it because I don't like the politics of it [same-sex relationships]. I think we are ridiculous about it in this country.
“It’s awkward because if I talk about relationships in my life or people that have been in my life … I’d like to be able to just say that, without having to stop and say, ‘so have you come out?’ No, I haven’t come out because I am out. I live out.
“There’s a very big age difference between us which I’m sure shocks a lot of people, and it startles me. But as they say, ‘If she dies, she dies.’”
On whether she would ever 'come out' in a grand way, Taylor's response was simple: "It's regarded as something people who are not mainstream have to do. Watch me if you wanna see how I live."
