Holland boss Ronald Koeman takes swipe at Northern Ireland tactics in Euro 2020 qualifier

Ronald Koeman didn't hold back in his criticism of Northern Ireland's tactics after Thursday night's Euro 2020 qualifier.

The Dutch had to come from behind before earning a late 3-1 win at the De Kuip stadium .

Michael O'Neill's side looked on course for a shock win when Josh Magennis headed home the opening goal in the 75th minute.

But Memphis Depay's equaliser and two goals in injury time finally saw the Dutch squeeze over the line.

Northern Ireland only had 23 per cent possession but put in a disciplined performance for over 80 minutes.

Koeman told NOS: "It is outrageous, the football they play, but it is allowed and they get the most out of their qualities.

"I respect that, but it is terrible to watch."

Koeman added: "That we turned it around wasn't luck, because that is not the first time either."

Northern Ireland counterpart O'Neill believes his side had little choice but to dig deep against world-class opposition.

"They bring on players like [Donyell] Malen and [Donny] van de Beek, who has been courted by clubs all over Europe, and we brought on two lads who play in League One," he said.

"Hopefully people recognise that. It was a fantastic performance but ultimately one that was disappointing in the end."
