Holland & Barrett launch new plastic-free beauty range that is selling out fast

Holland & Barrett has launched a brand new plastic-free beauty range and it is selling like hotcakes.

As the trend for sustainability reaches its peak, customers have been flocking to the high street chain to pick up the new handmade vegan soap bars that are produced by ethical beauty brand Ethique.

The bars, which launched earlier this month online at hollandandbarrett.com and in stores, can be used to wash your face, body and hair and promises zero consumer waste.

There are a number of heavenly sounding scents to choose from, including Matcha, Lime and Lemongrass and sweet Orange and Vanilla, and bars are priced from £5.49 to £26.99 dependant on type.

The arrival of the range marks a first for Holland & Barrett, Ethique is the only totally cruelty and palm-oil free, vegan, zero-waste brand on the UK high street right now, however we doubt it will be the last.

A Holland & Barrett spokesperson said: “We’re delighted to be the first British retailer to offer Ethique's beauty bar range, bringing a full-range of sustainably-sourced, vegan and zero-waste beauty products to British high streets nationwide for the first time.”

The collection of products have become an instant hit with shoppers, Holland & Barrett saw a 300% spike in searches and over 13,000 brand page visits when the products first went on sale on 7 July.

The brand hopes that by ditching liquid versions of its products, it can help consumers save a whopping 10million plastic bottles by 2020 and also work out more cost effective as the liquid-free items will last five times longer than similar plastic bottle alternatives.

Speaking about the success of the brand's launch so far, Founder Brianne West said, "We’re thrilled that a full-range of zero-waste beauty products will now be available on the nation’s high streets at Holland & Barrett stores, helping British consumers give up the bottle.

"By creating solid bars of beauty products without the water that makes up to 90% of a traditional liquid product, we hope to help combat the plastic pollution problem by providing consumers with a zero-waste alternative. After all, there’s water in your shower – why would you need more in your shampoo?”
