Holidaymakers warned over photos of Merseyside hotel

Holidaymakers have claimed photos on a hotel's website do not give the full picture of what it's like to stay there.

One man says he stayed at the Scarisbrick Hotel on Lord Street, Southport, last month - and said it looked like it hadn't been cleaned since the 1950s.

Taking to Tripadvisor, the reviewer, going by the name of Paul, did not hold back, saying it was "the worst hotel he has ever seen".

Paul also said whenever the person in the room above took a shower, it leaked into his room, giving him a "shower" too.

He wrote: "If you are looking for a hotel that was possibly quite grand in the 1950s but probably hasn’t been cleaned since, this is the place for you.

"We were initially given a room which had an interesting water feature.

"Whenever anyone had a shower in the room above, we were also treated to a shower in our room as the water poured through the ceiling.

"We complained about that and were moved to another room. No water feature in room two but also no curtains or blinds in the bathroom which means the people opposite were treated to a close range view of a man in the shower or on the toilet.

"We tried to connect to the WiFi but that didn’t work - we were later told that it didn’t work in the bedrooms!

"The following morning we went down to breakfast and it was the worst full English I have ever had. The food was swimming in grease and was the cheapest of ingredients. The orange juice made us feel sick.

"Despite having paid for breakfast, we decided to go out to cafes for the rest of our trip.

"In short, this hotel looks quite good if you look at the photos on the website but don’t be fooled.

"This is the worst hotel I have ever seen - you have been warned."

Scarisbrick owner Britannia was approached for comment but had not responded by the time of publication.
