Holidaymakers warned as forecasters predict severe thunderstorms in Italy, Greece and Turkey

Forecasters have predicted severe thunderstorms across Mediterranean holiday hotspots.

Any holidaymakers heading off to Italy, Greece or Turkey for some sun this week, might need to lower their weather expectations and pack a coat.

According to the BBC, flooding, hail and damaging wind gusts could hit these countries this week, The Express reports.

Forecaster Chris Fawkes said on the BBC weather report: "On the satellite picture you can see some big storm clouds across northern parts of Europe - that’s what we’ve had during Monday. The system is pushing southwards.

"So looking at the weather picture for Tuesday: the threat of severe thunderstorms across southern parts of Italy, along with parts of Greece.

"We could have some flash flooding from these storms.

"Also the risk of some damaging wind gusts and some fairly large hail as well.

"To the east of those storms it’s dry and sunny in Turkey and Crete.

"Further west, for Spain and Portugal, a lot of dry weather here.

"Temperatures generally rising over the next couple of days.

"Turning warmer as well in Paris with temperatures of 26 forecast for Tuesday.

"Low pressure brings some rain across parts of Sweden and the Baltics as we go on through the next few days.

"It stays quite cloudy - relatively cool for the time of year.

"On Wednesday we see those thunderstorms working their way into the western areas of Turkey."
