Holidaymakers urged to find alternative routes as the A38 is closed in both directions near Bristol Airport

A main route in and out of Bristol Airport has been closed in both directions this evening,

Motorists have been urged to plan their journey carefully and find alternative routes so the closure does not impact their flight.

It is understood the road has been shut between the airport and Brent Knoll.

An airport spokesperson posted on Facebook: "The A38, south of the airport, is currently closed in both directions until further notice. Please seek alternate routes to the from the airport."

Meanwhile, coach passengers using the South West Falcon have been warned services will no longer be stopping on a six-mile strech of the A38.

A spokesperson wrote on Twitter: "Due to a road closure on the A38 between Brent Knoll and the Airport in both directions the Falcon can not serve stops along this Road."

It is unclear a this point why the road has been closed. We will update the story in the morning.
