Holidaymakers heading to Spain for Easter could face travel chaos as strikes begin

Brit holidaymakers hoping to catch some spring sun in Spain over Easter could see their plans disrupted as strikes begin in Spanish airports.

Unión Sindical Obrera (USO) and Unión General de Trabajadores are preparing to host strikes which would see 60,000 ground handling airport staff staging a series of walk outs.

The unions have said that the industrial action would affect all Spanish airports and falls during holiday seasons as millions head to the country's resorts for pre-summer R&R.

According to the Mirror , the news follows a dispute between the unions and company Aseata over the pay and conditions for staff, including specific clauses regarding workers who are transferred from one company to another.

Despite entering negotiations through organisation SIMA (Interconfederal Service of Mediation and Arbitration), USO have since confirmed in a statement that an agreement has not been reached so are planning to host the walkouts.

The walk outs are currently planned for Sunday 21st April, Easter Sunday, and Wednesday 24th April.

Isabel Rubio, Secretary of Trade Union Action USE Aerial Sector, said: "It was impossible to reach an agreement, because the employer wanted a blank check: withdraw the strike in exchange for nothing, when in July and October it withdrew with agreements and they have not complied with them."

If you are flying to and from Spain in the mentioned dates, you should check with your flight operator before travelling.

If the planned action goes ahead it is likely to cause long queues, delays and possibly cancellations.
