Holidaymaker suffers brain bleeds and knocks out 12 teeth in horror Bali bike crash

A British holidaymaker was flung 10ft into a concrete ditch after a bike crash in Bali, smashing his jaw, knocking out 12 teeth and suffering two bleeds on the brain.

Ryan Pike was knocked unconscious before being rushed to hospital on the Indonesian island where he underwent eight hours of reconstructive surgery.

He had suffered a broken jaw, wrist and cheek, as well as bruised lungs and bleeds on the brain.

After two weeks, the 26-year-old was able to return home to Weston-super-Mare with five metal plates in his skull, but now needs £45,000-worth of dental work doing.

He is in constant pain, particularly when he eats, with the life-threatening bleeds only discovered when he was checked over by doctors in Britain.

Ryan had gone on holiday with friends last August when the horrific crash took place - just two days into the trip.

He said the group were returning to their villa and a car came around the corner.

Trying to get out of the car's way, Ryan fell into the ditch, hitting the concrete with his jaw.

He told BristolLive: "I lost 12 teeth in total and I have got five metal plates in my face.

"I need seven implants to keep everything in place as the jaw is weak which allows the teeth to move around as they are not fixed.

"Every single tooth has had work done to it and I need to have braces in the lower teeth.

"It is a constant ache and there is pain when eating."

Ryan said the implants would help his mouth recover and he has already spent nearly £30,000 on dental work, adding he had to borrow £20,000 which is his limit.

He has been quoted around £15,000 for the next stage of work.

"It would allow me to live pain free," he added. "Aesthetically, I am not the person I am used to looking at the mirror.

"Having the teeth done would be the final hurdle back to some normality.

"I  set up the page a week ago  on Sunday when I realised just how much it was going to cost.

"I know everybody is going through a really difficult time and it is not a decision I took lightly."

Ryan said the accident had impacted his self-confidence, adding his friends and family had been immensely supportive.

"I felt invincible and didn't not realise how quickly something can be taken away from you," he continued.

"I would advise people to be as careful as they can while enjoying themselves - and understand the country you are in.

"Otherwise, accidents can happen."

He will be donating half of what he raises to the NHS.
