Holidaymaker's car smashed up after airport parking company's '200-mile joyride'

A holidaymaker returned from Spain to find her car had been allegedly damaged by an airport parking company after she claimed they took her vehicle on a 200-mile joyride.

Emma Jackson had paid skylinkparking.co.uk £64.95 through the comparison app JustParkMe to look after her car while she was on holiday.

Emma and her partner Alex Bishop had only bought the car four weeks earlier, filling it with petrol on their way to Gatwick airport.

When they returned from the Costa Del Sol, however, they found that the front of the vehicle had been "smashed to pieces", causing £3,750 worth of damage.

They also found that the petrol tank was empty, leading them to deduce that the parking company had taken their car on a 200-mile joyride while they were abroad.

Speaking to Hull Live, Emma, from Patrington Haven, said: "When we got off the plane, I messaged the company as they asked for 30 minutes' notice so they could bring our car to the airport.

"But, when they answered, they told me that the car had been badly damaged and they started evading our questions.

"They asked us to get a taxi to meet them at a compound where our car was and we thought 'No way, that seems a bit dodgy'.

"When we eventually met them to get the car, we thought the damage would be just a scrape - but, it was horrific.

"They were all dodging the blame and saying 'We're just drivers, we can't help you' - they were being quite smug and antagonistic about it, to be honest.

"We tried ringing the company and they blocked both mine and Alex's numbers, as well as my son's.

"They gave absolutely no explanation about what had happened and I still have no idea. I was worried that I was going to find out that my car had hit someone or the police were after me or something like that."

Emma said the damages cost £3,750 to repair, but fortunately she was able to claim much of it on her insurance, despite the frustrating caveat of having to pay the excess of £350 and losing her no-claims bonus.

Emma and Alex wanted to help local people avoid going through the same thing.

Emma said: "My advice would be that before you make any booking, be sure to do your research online and read the reviews. If we had taken the time to read the reviews, we never would have booked with them as the reviews were just horrific."

A spokesman for skylinkparking.co.uk said its investigation into the matter could take 31 days while it examines CCTV and driving logs.
