Holiday park ad claims 'Royal' couple have snapped up touring caravan pitch at Somerset site

A holiday park has put out a tongue in cheek ad suggesting they have welcomed a very special Royal couple.

Home Farm Holiday Park in Burnham-on-Sea posted an image of a casually dressed couple resembling Prince Harry and Meghan Markle standing next to a caravan on its Facebook page.

And the post inferred that the couple – currently at the centre of a media storm due to their decision to step back as senior Royals – had come to stay in Somerset.

In their post, the holiday park said: “We have just sold our first seasonal touring pitch of 2020 to a lovely couple who just want to get away from the hustle and bustle!

“You too can grab a seasonal pitch and live like a royal!”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex released a statement through Buckingham Palace last week saying they planned to "carve out a progressive new role within this institution".

They also said they hoped to become  'financially independent" and pursue a new "charitable entity" splitting their time between the UK and North America.

Meghan has returned to North America while Harry remains in the UK where he is meeting with The Queen and other senior members of the family today to discuss the couple’s decision.

Home Farm Holiday Park operations manager Christian Grant was behind the spoof advert.

He said: “A friend sent me the picture and I thought using it to promote our park was a bit of fun.

“We put the post on our social media channels and it has been shared and liked hundreds of times.”

“Obviously we would be delighted to welcome Harry and Meghan for a holiday in Burnham-on-Sea.”

And there would be plenty for the Royal couple and baby son Archie to enjoy.

As well as plenty of sandy beaches nearby, the four star park has 220 touring pitches for the couple to choose from.

They could also choose to stay in one of the static caravans on the sites or in one of the new glamping pods which were installed last year.

New static caravans are currently being installed on site which come with hot tubs.

The park also has a range of facilities from its own clubhouse which puts on live entertainment every night.

Baby Archie could meet the park’s mascots Hooty and Tooty the owls while mum and dad could enjoy the leisure centre and private members gym complete with steam room, sauna, pool and gym.

The park also boasts an outdoor pool and its own fishing lakes.

In their statement released last week the Royal couple said: “We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

"It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment,"

"We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity."

"We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support."
