Holiday makers urged to take extra care coming home in wet weather

The State Emergency Service is urging those returning home from holidays to take extra care when returning home with wet weather wreaking havoc in parts of the state.

Flood warnings have been issued for the Hastings River at Wauchope and the Camden Haven River at Laurieton.

Further rain is predicted for much of the state over the next few days, prompting the warning from the SES.

"It's always a good idea to be super careful," spokesperson Ilana Pender-Rose said. "We are in storm season so bad weather can happen.

"People coming home from holidays may be driving through areas they are not familiar with.

"Stay up to date with advice and make sure you know the flood risk for the local area you are in."

Here in the Hunter, SES crews have responded to 10 jobs since midnight on New Year's Eve. Ms Pender-Rose said most of the incidents were storm-related.

Some were for leaking and damaged rooves, while crews also responded to fallen tree incidents at Medowie and Elermore Vale.
