With the festivities well and truly behind us, many may be starting to look forward to a holiday overseas.
However, with Covid cases remaining high across Scotland the rest of the UK as Omicron takes hold, there are a number of travel restrictions that could be a stop to your summer getaway plans.
From testing rules to vaccination exemptions, it is important to stay in the know when it comes to planning visits to other countries.
Popular holidays destinations for Scots, including Spain and France, are currently running under strict measures when t comes to tourists.
But it may not all be bad news.
Here are the latest restrictions that could see your holiday plans altered for yet another year.
Spain
Entry rules in Spain are currently pretty relaxed - especially for fully vaccinated travellers.
Tourists and holidaymakers who have received all of their jabs will be allowed to cross Spanish border as long s they were vaccinated at least 14 days before travel.
Proof of vaccination will be required on entry without the need for testing or qurantine.
All travellers - includng children under 12 years old - must fill in and sign an online Health Control Form which can be found here.
When arriving in Spain, you must show the QR code (hardcopy or digital) issued when you completed the online Health Control Form before travel.
You may also be subject to additional checks at the point of entry including a temperature check, visual health assessment, or testing on arrival.
Spain are currently not allowing unvaccinated holidaymakers in - apart from those medically exempt.
You will be able to travel to Spain if unvaccinated under certain conditions such as being a healthcare professional or if you are traveling for duly accredited imperative family reasons.
Full details can be found here.
France
All those wishing to travel from the UK to France, regardless of vaccination status, can only do so for essential reasons, as defined by the French authorities.
This means that holidaying in France is currently not allowed.
French nationals, as well as residents in France, are considered to have an essential reason for travel.
There are also a number of other exemptions that would allow travel to France from Scotland such as needing to pass through France to reach your final destination.
All travellers will still need to prove they're fully vaccinated as well as showing a negative Covid test taken within 24 hours of travel.
Full details can be accessed on the Government website here.
Portugal
Before traveling to mainland Portugal, Scots must take a Covid test.
There are currently two testing options.
Option one is to take a PCR test within 72 hours of your flights' departure.
You can instead choose option number two which requires you to take an Antigen - rapid lateral flow - test within 48 hours of your flight's departure time.
Both options require the tests to be carried out by a medical professional with at-home lateral flow tests not accepted.
Tests must be taken by travelers aged 12 and over. Those aged between 0 and 11 will no need to take a test - whether it be PCR or lateral flow.
Tests results must be shown at the border and at hotel check-in.
Tests on arrival are not needed unless your temperature is above 38C, you may then be asked to take an antigen test.
You will also need to fill out a passenger locator form before departing. Portugal's form can be found here.
You risk being denied boarding if these requirements are not met.
America
If you are planning to travel to the USA, current rules state that a PCR test or lateral flow test will need to be taken within one day of your departure.
Whichever test you opt to take must be carried out or witnessed by a healthcare professional.
Testing requirements apply to all passengers over the age of one.
However, only those with an exception or US Citizens, US Nationals, and US Lawful Permanent Residents will be able to enter the US unvaccinated.
You will be required to provide proof of vaccination. You can find out more about this here.
Upon arrival, fully vaccinated travellers:
- do not have to quarantine
- are recommended to take a viral test within 3 to 5 days of arrival in the US.
If you have recovered from Covid in the last 90 days you will not need to take a test on days 3, 4 or 5. You will be required to provide proof of the previous infection.
You will also need to get a visa or an Electronic System for Travel Authorisation (ESTA) visa waiver to enter or transit the USA as a visitor.
Full details on this waiver are available online here.
Turkey
The rules of holidaymakers heading to Turkey differ whether you are vaccinated or not.
Those who are fully vaccinated will not be required to take a test.
You will be asked to prove your vaccination station, this can be done using the NHS appp.
If you have not received your jabs you will need to take a PCR or lateral flow test before departure.
PCR tests must be taken within 72 hours of your arrival with lateral flows required within 48 hours of your arrival.
