A Scottish woman is fighting for her life in hospital after she was discovered out cold beside her dead husband in a villa in Spain after what is believed to be a suspected carbon monoxide leak.
The woman, 39, was found beside the unmoving body of her husband, 40, at a property in Majorca on Saturday afternoon, The Daily Record reports.
Emergency services brought her to Manacor Hospital while she was unconscious. She remains in intensive care at the time of writing.
The couple travelled from their home in Edinburgh to vacation at a property owned by family members.
A relation of theirs rang emergency services after they failed to pick up their phones.
Police are investigating the tragedy, which remains ongoing, with the earliest lines of enquiry pinpointing a faulty gas-powered fridge in the property.
Sources revealed that they were looking into the possibility of fatal carbon monoxide gas which may have been seeping into the air during the night.
The couple are not yet named but the woman is believed to be an Edinburgh-based former bank worker.
Her husband is thought to have been born in Spain and received British nationality through marriage.
His wife may not be aware that he is dead, such is the severity of her condition.
She is in what was labelled as a "serious" condition in intensive care.
The house where the gas leak occurred has been described as a rural property, with unverified local reports saying it is owned by the dead man’s father.
